Happy Canada Day 2025!

Hard to believe that half of 2025 is gone. It feels like mere minutes have passed since we were singing carols and Auld Lang Syne. Suddenly we’re enjoying one another’s company at backyard barbecues, the beach, firework shows, and on the dock at the cottage.

As festive as things may feel on the surface as we celebrate our nation’s birthday, we are navigating our way through some tumultuous circumstances. Relations with our closest ally and neighbour to the south are strained by taunts of annexing Canada as their 51st State. Fluctuating tariff rates are creating economic uncertainty. Fewer Canadians are travelling to the USA because they fear being detained and arrested.

Inflation, conflict in the Middle East, the ongoing war in Ukraine, and the ever-present threat of climate change heightens our stress even further. Despite these unpleasant challenges, we still have plenty for which we can be thankful.

We live in a free country. We are a welcoming country. We are a country that values diversity and encourages everyone to celebrate their heritage. We are blessed with spectacularly beautiful natural scenery.

Our citizens are kind-hearted and empathetic people who are always willing to help others in need. Our soldiers have bravely defended democracy and played important roles in defeating aggressive regimes in both World Wars. We are a key trading player in the Group of Seven. We have solidified numerous alliances as one of the most respected nations on the planet.

Be thankful this Canada Day and be faithful that better days await us.
